Terms of Service

Last updated August 30, 2026

By using Road Companion, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. What Road Companion is. Road Companion is a recordkeeping tool that helps you maintain a mileage log. It converts addresses to driving distances using third-party mapping services, calculates dollar amounts using IRS standard mileage rates, and exports your log as a PDF or spreadsheet.

2. What Road Companion is not. Road Companion is not tax, legal, or accounting software. It does not provide tax advice. It does not determine whether any trip is deductible. It does not file taxes or submit anything to the IRS or any tax authority. Nothing it produces is a substitute for advice from your own CPA, enrolled agent, or attorney.

3. You are responsible for your log. The taxpayer is solely responsible for the accuracy and completeness of every entry in the mileage log, and for deciding whether any given trip is a deductible business expense. The provider of Road Companion is not responsible for entries you make or omit, for distances that are inaccurate, or for any tax outcome resulting from use of the app.

4. Distances are estimates. Mileage is calculated by an outside mapping service or, when routing is unavailable, by a straight-line estimate. It is an approximation of the route you drove, not a measurement. You must verify figures against your own odometer and correct anything that looks wrong before relying on them.

5. Data storage and backups. All data is stored only on your device. There is no server copy and no account. If your device is lost, damaged, or replaced without a backup, your data will be lost. Road Companion provides automatic local snapshots and manual and cloud backup features, but you are responsible for exporting backups regularly. The provider is not liable for data loss.

6. Third-party services. Road Companion uses mapping services (Geoapify, LocationIQ, MapTiler, or OpenStreetMap) to geocode addresses and calculate routes. These services have their own terms of use, rate limits, and privacy policies. You are responsible for complying with the terms of the mapping provider you choose, including any restrictions on commercial use. The provider of Road Companion is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or pricing of any third-party mapping service.

7. No warranty. Road Companion is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The provider does not warrant that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that distances or rate calculations will be accurate.

8. Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the provider of Road Companion shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising from your use of the app, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. The provider's total liability for any claim arising from use of the app shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app.

9. Acceptable use. You agree not to use Road Companion for any unlawful purpose, to misuse or overload any mapping service, or to attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or redistribute the app's source code.

10. Changes to the app. The provider may update or modify Road Companion at any time. Because the app runs on your device, updates are delivered as new versions that you install yourself. The provider cannot modify your installed copy remotely.

11. Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the provider operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

12. Severability. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
