Road Companion is a privacy-first app. It was built so that your mileage log — which contains sensitive information about where you go, when, and why — never has to leave your device.

We do not collect, store, or transmit your data. Road Companion has no servers, no databases, and no accounts. Every trip, client, vehicle, saved place, and setting is stored only in your device's own browser storage. We cannot see your data because it is never sent to us.

What stays on your device:

• Trip entries (dates, addresses, distances, purposes, notes)
• Client and vehicle records
• Saved places and their coordinates
• Your IRS rate table and branding settings
• Your mapping provider API key (stored only in your browser)

What leaves your device, and why:

• Address searches and route calculations are sent to the mapping provider you choose (Geoapify, LocationIQ, MapTiler, or OpenStreetMap). This is necessary to convert addresses into driving distances. The provider receives only the address text you type — not your name, your trip history, or any other app data. Each provider has its own privacy policy, which you can review before signing up.
• Cloud backups (Google Drive or iCloud) are handled entirely by your device's operating system through the native share sheet. Road Companion never sees your cloud credentials and has no access to anything else in your cloud storage.

What we never do:

• We do not track your location in the background or while you drive.
• We do not use cookies, analytics, advertising trackers, or fingerprinting.
• We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone.
• We do not have an account system — there is nothing to log in to.

Backups are your responsibility. Because data lives only on your device, losing or replacing the device without a backup will lose the log. Road Companion creates automatic local snapshots and supports manual and cloud backups, but it is up to you to export backups regularly.

Children's privacy. Road Companion is a business tool and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, regardless of age.

Changes to this policy. If we ever change how Road Companion handles data, we will update this page. Because the app runs entirely on your device, any change would require a new version that you install yourself — we cannot change how your installed copy behaves remotely.
